In a desperate plea for help, a mother dog poked her head out to signal her dire circumstances. She and her puppies had been trapped in an old, rusted cage for years, according to a neighbor.
The stench from their makeshift prison was overwhelming, hinting at the harsh conditions they faced daily.
Their cage, deteriorated and rarely opened, served as their only shelter throughout the year. The dogs endured extreme weather, from hunger and cold to rain and heat, and faced unimaginable hardships.

Inside the cage lay their food dish, filled with remnants of moldy rice and leftover corn. The bowl was not only rusty and filthy but also contained trash mixed with their scant meals.
Locals noted that, although the owner maintained a tidy and affluent lifestyle, these dogs were neglected, their needs completely ignored.
The little nourishment the dogs received resembled more of a garbage dump than a proper meal. Yet, in this grim setting, the mother dog gazed at us with teary eyes as her puppies, weak and near death, huddled by her side.

The scene was heart-wrenching.
When we finally managed to rescue them, our efforts were driven by compassion. Of the eight puppies, five survived. The remaining puppies were incredibly young, with their umbilical cords still attached, eyes unopened, and starving.
Veterinarians expressed concern about possible infections, and we hoped for their recovery. The mother dog herself was skeletal, having been deprived of food for so long that she could barely produce milk.

Yet, there is hope on the horizon. As these dogs begin their new journey, they are finally able to witness the beauty and kindness in the world.
The puppies are expected to find caring homes, and Playa, the mother dog, will live with us, experiencing the freedom to run and play as she pleases.
Her transformation from a life of despair to one of joy and exploration is extraordinary.
For Playa and her puppies, a lifetime of freedom awaits.
