A few days ago, Jacks Anderson and her wife encountered a pregnant pit bull named Poppy while grabbing lunch at a fried chicken stand. Poppy was watching them from the sidewalk, but she didn’t approach or beg for food. After the owners shooed her away, the couple noticed her large belly and knew they had to help.
They worked patiently to earn Poppy’s trust, eventually offering her food and lifting her into their car. Once in a safe space, they were shocked to see Poppy had tears in her eyes. The couple took her to the vet for treatment, and after a couple of quiet days, Poppy warmed up to her new home, showing more energy and affection.
Though they initially planned to foster her, Poppy quickly became part of the family. Anderson and her wife are now committed to keeping Poppy and caring for her puppies once they arrive, ensuring she’ll never have to endure the streets again.
“She’s earned an easier go of things,” Anderson said, as Poppy continues to soak up all the love she’s finally receiving.
