On a cold July midnight, a helpless puppy was abandoned on Okie Street, left to fend for himself. The next morning, a call alerted rescuers to his pitiful state—lying in a ditch, frail and unable to move. The nine-month-old pup, later named Shepherd, had been left to die, his body emaciated and his spirit broken.
Rescuers rushed him to an emergency animal hospital, where the extent of his suffering became clear. Weighing only 15 pounds, Shepherd was severely underweight, with mange, a secondary skin infection, and open sores covering his fragile body.
For three critical days, he received intensive medical care, though his survival was uncertain. When he was finally stable, one of the rescue’s most experienced fosters took him in.

In the beginning, Shepherd was weak and lethargic. His droopy ears and tail reflected his sadness, and his frail condition made recovery seem like a distant hope.
But by day four, a small miracle occurred—he wagged his tail for the first time, and his ears perked up slightly. It was a glimmer of life, a sign that this abandoned puppy had the will to fight.

By the end of the first week, Shepherd began to show incredible progress. He stood on his own, took his first shaky steps, and even engaged with the other dogs in his foster home.
One dog, a large Rottweiler, became his favorite companion. Their budding friendship symbolized Shepherd’s growing confidence and joy.

Over the next few weeks, Shepherd’s transformation was remarkable. By the third week, he was going on regular walks, his hesitant steps turning into confident strides.
His new name, Tig, reflected his newfound strength and energy. Tig was no longer the sick, abandoned puppy rescued from the ditch—he was a vibrant, playful dog ready to embrace life.
