Pup From Texas Who Was Partially Blind Struggles To Find A Home, While His Friends Got Adopted

I strongly believe there’s one perfect dog for everyone! And, vice versa. There’s one kind hooman for every dog in this world.

Yes, even for senior shelter dogs!

These overlooked four-legged furballs probably have the lowest chance of ever meeting their perfect match. It’s mostly due to their age, health issues, or the fact that they can no longer move like they used to.

Popcorn, a 10-year-old pup living in a Texas shelter, is the perfect example. Not only was she ignored and overlooked, but Poppy never had a decent chance to show her true personality to a forever family – all due to stereotypes.

If Popcorn could talk, I bet this would be her only question: “Why not me?”

Adoption events, people arriving and leaving the Texas shelter… and still nothing? How could that be? And, is there anyone who understands that senior dogs are genuinely nice, calm canines who enjoy an indoor life?

That’s right. Popcorn, the senior, would be perfect for another senior – to share her golden years with. Unfortunately, her applications were nowhere to be found.

The HBR rescue explains that the main reason behind this phenomenon is a dog’s overall health condition.

“Dogs like Popcorn are often overlooked in shelters, their age and medical needs making them the first to be passed over. But thanks to our incredible community, we couldn’t leave her behind,” the rescue wrote on Facebook.

And, truth be told, Popcorn had many. She was almost visually impaired, had an ear infection, and a number of lumps that covered her body.

“Cloudy eyes, a chronic ear infection, skin issues, and several concerning lumps—it was clear this senior girl needed immediate, extensive medical care,” HBR added.

That’s why instead of letting Popcorn wait for nothing in the shelter, the HBR team decided to match her with a foster. She was transferred to New York City to a permanent foster home, with a short break when her mom had to go away for a few weeks.

In the meantime, Poppy stayed with Sophie, her other foster mom, and had a few lovely weeks with her.

But then, her NYC mama came back, filled with hope that her furry friend would finally find a home and a family who matched her perfectly.

Sadly, instead of an application, Popcorn and her momma experienced a few more heartbreaks. However, the turning point was this particular adoption event where Popcorn literally sat in sorrow watching other dogs get adopted and get all enthusiastic about their new start.

It completely broke her foster mom’s heart!

“And this is the moment I sobbed. She deserves so much love and comfort and will be someone’s perfect snuggle’s body,” her foster mom wrote in the video.

When they thought nothing more could be done for Popcorn to become “visible” to her potential adopters, something amazing happened.

Her foster mom was notified that Poppy, in fact, received an application from the perfect family and that she’d soon be on her way to a new home in Cape Cod.

“I’m thrilled beyond measure to share that Poppy found her forever home!!! She’s off to live out her golden years in Cape Cod with her new mom and dog siblings,” Sophie announced on X.

To say that Poppy’s caregivers were thrilled by this exciting news is an understatement! All those attempts to help her get a fresh start, all those failed adoption events, all the sleepless nights in heartbreak – they were all gone!

Today, Poppy is a brand-new dog. Despite her senior years, she’s more than happy to embark on a new journey and soak up all the beautiful memories coming her way.

She’s one happy pup after all!
