On the highway, I noticed a German Shepherd mother desperately trying to help her injured puppy: I carefully picked up the pup and carried it onto the road, but the next moment something unexpected happened
That day it was pouring rain. I was driving along a nearly empty highway when I suddenly saw something strange. On the roadside stood a German Shepherd — soaked, emaciated, with eyes full of despair. She barked loudly and kept looking down.
At first, I thought she had found food or something similar. But fighting so desperately for food in such weather? Unlikely. I stopped the car, stepped out into the downpour, and walked closer.
Then I saw it: down below, near a concrete wall, a small puppy was struggling in vain to climb up. Its little paw was injured, and it couldn’t make it up. When the adult dog saw me, her barking suddenly turned into a plaintive whine, as if she were begging for help.
I carefully picked up the puppy and brought it onto the road. Mother and pup were finally side by side, wet but alive. I sighed with relief, ready to get back into the car and drive away. But then something completely unexpected happened. To be continued in the first comment
The German Shepherd and her puppy started following me. As soon as I opened the driver’s door, the mother stood right in front of the car, not letting me leave. There was no anger in her eyes — only a plea. That’s when I understood: they didn’t want to let me go.
I opened the passenger door. And at that very moment, both of them jumped inside, as if they had been waiting for this moment all along.
Now they live with me — both very smart and lively. And now I wonder: did they stage that little “scene” on the roadside on purpose to find themselves a good owner? Or was it just coincidence… But one thing I know for sure: dogs are sometimes smarter than we think.
