Scared Stray Dog Roamed The Streets For Months, Hiding An Adorable Secret “We couldn’t let her have her babies alone on the cold street”

“We couldn’t let her have her babies alone on the cold street” 😰

When Suzette Hall, the founder and director of Logan’s Legacy 29, received a call from a Good Samaritan living in Los Angeles, California, her heart instantly dropped. The caller told her about a small dog who’d been roaming in their neighborhood for months — and she’d recently gained a concerning amount of weight.

Hall was saddened to learn more about the pup’s history.

“She had been on the streets since August,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “She would sit in the middle of the street and almost got hit so many times.”

According to the caller, multiple neighbors tried helping the poor, scared girl. But she was too frightened to let anyone get close.

“[T]he neighbors all tried to help, but she would just run,” Hall wrote.

Then, as months passed with no success in capturing her, the neighbors noticed the pup’s belly was starting to get bigger. They feared she was hiding a growing secret and contacted Hall for urgent help.

“We couldn’t let her have her babies alone on the cold street,” Hall wrote.

Hall raced to the caller’s neighborhood. One of her friends, Hilary Klein, volunteered to meet her there and soon laid eyes on the depressed dog.

“[The] poor mama was starving, eating anything she could find,” Hall wrote.

As heartbreaking as it was to see the presumably pregnant dog in such a state of hunger, Hall knew she could use that to her advantage when trying to catch her. When she finally arrived, Hall set up her dog trap and opened a can of high-value food, hoping for the best.

Thankfully, the pup was instantly intrigued by the item in Hall’s hands.

“She would run if you looked at her, but when I opened the can … she froze and immediately started coming towards my trap,” Hall wrote.

Minutes later, the pup was safely in the dog trap and no longer free-roaming the streets. Hall, Klein and the group of worried neighbors were ecstatic.

“She didn’t have to be unwanted or alone ever again or have her family alone on the streets somewhere,” Hall wrote. “This mama is warm and rescued.”

The dog, named Frita, went straight into foster care with Second Leash On Life’s Alix Levy Smith, where she settled in for her first cozy sleep in months.

Then, days later, she surprised her foster mom with a handful of fluffy new additions.

“[T]he night before Thanksgiving, she gave birth to [four] boys and [one] girl in a warm home,” Hall wrote in a Facebook update.

Frita and her babies have been thriving in the weeks since their birth and will soon be available for adoption through Second Leash On Life. Until then, they’ll keep enjoying their serene moments as a family of six sharing a warm and cozy home for the first time.

“Sweet mama, your family is beautiful,” Hall wrote.
