Shelter life can be stressful due to the loud noises, isolation, lack of routine, strange smells and much more. While staff and volunteers do their best to care for each dog the best solution is always a loving home.
A sweet five-year-old dog named Cookie is struggling with shelter life after spending years as an outdoor dog who is still searching for security. She has never experienced what it is like to live inside a loving home where she can cuddle on the couch.

Humane Society of Broward County shared that shelter life is “too overwhelming” for her, even though she has a soft bed, toys, and all the food she wants. She is missing the one thing she really needs – someone to love and who will love her in return.
According to a post on Facebook, “Most days she curls up in our staff office, where she finally feels calm and protected. She came to us after living outdoors, and this is the safest she has ever felt. She loves cozy blankets, belly rubs, and being close to kind people. She loves being outside and likes to run and enjoy the sun.”
Her caretakers shared that once she feels comfortable her true personality shines. Her tail starts to wag, and she starts to run and play. She is friendly with other dogs and calm around children.
She just needs a patient and quiet home where she can relax and be herself. She has so much love to give and is ready to find her special someone. Anyone interested in adopting her can contact the shelter or stop by to meet her.

Someone please open your heart and home to Cookie.
Animal shelters are overflowing with homeless dogs and cats waiting for a loving home. Help us feed these shelter pets by donating to our annual Holiday Pet Food Drive. Together, we can make sure they have full bellies as they wait to be adopted.
