Some dogs leave paw prints on sand… others leave them on people’s lives…

They know we loved them unconditionally and they leave this earth knowing.
In Huntington Beach, people didn’t only come to watch the ocean.
They came to see Sugar.
A rescue dog who rose to become a five-time World Dog Surfing Champion, riding waves with confidence and joy like it was second nature.
In 2024, she made history.
Sugar became the first dog ever inducted into the Surfer’s Hall of Fame. Her paw prints were placed alongside some of the greatest surfers in the world.
But what truly made her special happened away from the water.
Sugar spent her time as a therapy dog, visiting veterans and bringing quiet comfort to people who needed it most. She had a way of making people smile without trying.
From being found as a stray…
to becoming a champion…
to helping others heal.
At 16 years old, after a battle with cancer, Sugar passed away in March 2026 in the arms of her owner, Ryan Rustan.
Her story didn’t end that day.
Because the joy she gave people…
and the lives she touched…
are still out there.
Sugar was never just a dog; she was a legend, woven into every memory she touched.
This is the kind of story that reminds you how much one dog can truly mean.
