Every year, my family (husband Alex, our kids Liam and Ava) enjoyed a tropical getaway for Christmas. But this year, we returned to find our home vandalized—egg yolk on the walls and a note reading, “This is for the years you ignored me.”

By New Year’s Eve, we invited my parents over, beginning a new chapter. My mother-in-law also mended her relationship with my dad, and they became unlikely friends.
