The wildfires in Los Angeles, which have destroyed some of the city’s wealthiest homes, are expected to become one of the most expensive natural disasters ever. AccuWeather estimates the damage will be at least $52 billion, possibly reaching $57 billion. This would make it one of the top ten costliest disasters, joining events like hurricanes, including this summer’s Helene, which caused $250 billion in damage.
“This is already one of the worst wildfires in California history,” said meteorologist Jonathan Porter. If more buildings burn, it could become the worst wildfire in the state’s history in terms of the number of structures destroyed and economic loss.
