A heroic dog ran nearly four miles to find help after their owner’s truck plummeted into a ravine Sunday, according to a press release published by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
Brandon Garrett of Halfway, Oregon, and his four dogs were traveling north on U.S. Forest Service Road 39 on Sunday, June 2, in Oregon’s Baker County when Garrett lost control of his vehicle and went off the road into a riverbank below.
Luckily, one of Garrett’s pups knew just what to do. After exiting the vehicle, Garrett’s dog Blue traveled nearly four miles overnight to where Garrett’s family was worryingly waiting at their campsite. From there, Blue and Garrett’s family members trekked back to the scene of the crash to locate Garrett’s truck and call for help. Due to the rough terrain, family members were unable to reach Garrett and the crash site themselves.
No pictures have been released of the dogs yet, but Blue and Garrett’s other dogs are said to be pit bull mixes, according to an individual close to the family. Not a surprise, as we know another pit bullwho flagged down help from a passerby and saved his owner’s life just a few years ago.
Although there are multiple types of pit bull breeds, what links them together is the loyalty they have to their owners. If you’re looking for a loyal dog to add to your household—perhaps one that would run four miles in the dark to get you help—check out our list of the 10 most loyal dog breeds.
Blue, you are a very good dog!
