For more than six years, Jake lived with an enormous salivary tumor that grew untreated as his owners did nothing.
What started as swelling was brushed off as a snake bite, and over time, the mass grew so large Jake could no longer turn his head or find relief from the constant pain. All he could do was cry.

Jake’s former family claimed they loved him, but despite raising him as an indoor dog and teaching him commands like shaking paws, they never once took him to a vet.
The Long Way Home rescue shared that Jake was well-behaved, house-trained, and got along with other dogs—but for years, he carried the weight of the tumor alone.

It wasn’t until Jake was found wandering in a remote part of Texas that his story began to change.
Cribs for Canines stepped in, working with the family until they finally surrendered him so he could get the medical care he had been denied for so long.
Jake was brought to the Texas Animal Medical Center in Waco, where Dr. Lide and his team immediately began treatment.
In the first step toward relief, they drained an incredible 1200cc of fluid from his neck. The change was almost immediate.
“For the first time in six years, Jake was able to turn his head,” the rescue team shared. “It was such a simple thing, but for him, it meant everything.”

Jake is now eating well, going to the bathroom normally, and his spirits have lifted. While there’s no guarantee of a full recovery, the team caring for him is giving their all to help him heal.
After years of silent suffering, Jake finally has people fighting for him. His journey is a reminder that every animal deserves attention, care, and a chance to live without pain.
