I FOUND EIGHT PUPPIES IN A DITCH—AND MADE A DECISION THAT COULD COST ME MY JOB

Posted on April 20, 2025 by admin

I was already late for work—wet hair, low gas, and texts from my manager blowing up my phone. Pulling over wasn’t part of the plan. But then I saw a blur near the road. Then another.

I stopped. Eight puppies, huddled in a muddy ditch, shivering. No mom, no collar, nothing—just dumped.

I grabbed my hoodie, made three trips, and got them all into my backseat on an old camping blanket. I called work from the parking lot of a closed vet clinic and said I had a family emergency. It wasn’t a lie.

Now my boss is threatening a write-up, my lease says one pet only, and I’ve got eight hungry mouths to feed. But every time I look at their little eyes, I know I did the right thing—even if I have no idea what comes next.

By noon, the vet said they were healthy but needed shots, meds, and food. I left with a supply list longer than my grocery list and a receipt that nearly emptied my savings.

At home, I made space, borrowed supplies, and tried to keep it all together. Work breaks became supply runs. Nights were feedings and chaos. I was exhausted.

Then came the call.

A woman named Marcy said she saw my post and thought the puppies might be her dog’s—Daisy had gone missing pregnant two weeks ago. We met that afternoon. She cried when she saw them. “They’re hers.”

She took them in and promised to keep searching for Daisy. Letting them go hurt. My apartment felt empty.

Two days later, Marcy sent a photo—Daisy had been found. Now she was home, reunited with her puppies. “We owe you everything,” she wrote.

Later, my boss called—not to scold, but to thank me. “You’ve got guts,” he said. “No write-up.”

A week after, Marcy invited me over. She handed me one last pup. “This is Luna,” she said. “She’s yours.”

And just like that, I wasn’t alone. Luna reminded me why I stopped that day. It wasn’t just about saving them—it was about finding purpose, trusting my gut, and believing kindness always finds its way back.
