After suffering a serious injury, the dog was surrendered to a New York shelter because her owners could not afford the much-needed surgery. Honey Bunches, now one of many shelter dogs, was soon listed for euthanasia…
From Shelter To Medical Foster Care
Honey Bunches’ situation was truly heartbreaking. The pup was facing euthanasia at no fault of her own after being hit by an electric scooter. She had a broken femur and needed surgery, but the expenses were too high, both for her owners and the shelter.
Enter Rachel!
The kind-hearted dog rescuer of Twenty Paws Rescue in New York City immediately rushed into action when she learned about Honey Bunches’ case. She pulled her out of the shelter and decided to take her in on a foster basis, knowing this little dog deserved a second chance.
“When we saw her face, we knew we NEEDED to help her. She was listed to be euthanized today at noon. Not anymore! She’s our medical foster intake,” TPR explained on their social media.
Soon enough, Honey Bunches underwent surgery, and the results were incredible!
For the first six weeks, she was prescribed strict crate rest – and her foster momma adhered to it. Although it was challenging given Honey’s cheerful spirit, Rachel supported her healing every step of the way.
Before long, she was finally able to run and explore the world around her freely.
Honey Bunches loved her new foster home, but what she loved most was Rachel’s other dog, Oreo, with whom she soon became inseparable.
The two spent days chasing each other, playing in the yard, and enjoying every second together. Then, Honey Bunches received life-changing news that marked a new chapter for her!
Running Freely In A New Home
It didn’t take long for Honey Bunches to find her forever home! A woman named Ashley reached out, and soon enough, the two fell in love with each other.
“We couldn’t have dreamed of a better home for her! So much love to HB and her mama,” the New York rescue wrote on Facebook.
Honey Bunches, now Autumn, is finally where she is supposed to be, and she couldn’t be happier. To see her run freely after a harrowing accident is a rewarding moment, both for her new momma and Rachel.
According to Ashley, Autumn now has a spacious backyard to enjoy her freedom.
“She is still the best thing to ever happen to me. I bought her a new house with a biggggg backyard outside of the city. Anything for my girl,” Ashley told TPR in a message.
