Sweet Potato Was Deemed ‘Too Broken’ Until A Miracle Saved Her

Abandoned and Starving, Sweet Potato Was Deemed ‘Too Broken’—Until a Miracle Saved Her

All Sweet Potato ever longed for was love—and someone to love her in return.

Instead, she was heartlessly abandoned in a Florida park, left to fend for herself. That cruel act led to countless nights filled with fear and uncertainty.

This tiny, fragile pup wasn’t just alone. She was also sick. And as the days passed, her condition only worsened.

Eventually, animal control found her. But rather than being seen as a soul worth saving, Sweet Potato was labeled “too broken.”

Her fate? The most merciless outcome of all—euthanasia.

Too Sick, Too Broken, and Left Without Hope

Her frail body was nothing but skin and bones. Severely emaciated and suffering from anemia, she was barely holding on.

Despite her gentle nature and clear affection for humans, no one came looking for her.

Her past was a mystery, but one thing was clear—she had once belonged to someone. That made her abandonment even more heartbreaking.

Due to the severity of her medical needs, the shelter lacked the resources to help her. The decision was made: she would be put to sleep.

There was no hope left.

They saw Sweet Potato not as a lost cause but as a life worth fighting for.

Her suffering ran deeper than anyone initially realized. Malnourishment was just the beginning.“She was rescued from the euthanasia list at Animal Control, where her severe medical needs exceeded their resources. She was emaciated, dehydrated, anemic, and suffering from a pneumothorax and a broken rib caused by trauma,” the rescue shared on Facebook.

The moment she was in their care, Sweet Potato was rushed to a vet.

Her big, pleading eyes told them everything—she wanted to live.

And the team at Tri-County knew they couldn’t let her down.

A Fighter Through and Through

Her road to recovery was grueling. She needed constant care, X-rays, ultrasounds, IV treatments, anti-inflammatory medication, bloodwork, and a specialized diet.

Every moment mattered. Every day was a battle.

To ensure she received around-the-clock attention, the rescue staff closely monitored her.

At one point, Sweet Potato’s condition was so fragile that she spent 24 hours under the personal care of the hospital director.

It was touch and go.

But thanks to the unwavering dedication of her medical team—and her indomitable spirit—Sweet Potato pulled through.

Her journey isn’t over, but she is slowly learning what it means to trust again.

“Day by day, she’s regaining her strength, her trust, and her joy. Her wagging tail and loving personality are proof that hope can triumph over hardship,” the rescue shared.

And soon, Sweet Potato will take the next step in her journey—finding the loving home she has always deserved.

That’s the future she is fighting for.

And that’s the future we’re all hoping she finds.

Be well, sweet girl. The best is yet to come!
