A young Pit Bull was lying in the grass beside the road, completely still and showing no obvious signs of life.
The children did the right thing and called 911, a quick call that ended up saving his life.
When humane police officer Russ Harper of Justice Rescue arrived, what he saw was [he.artbre.aking]. The dog was cold and motionless. As Harper gently picked him up, he truly believed he was carrying a dead dog in his arms.
Then he noticed the smallest sign that there was still a chance.
He got the young Pit Bull to Keystone Veterinary Emergency Clinic in Havertown, Pennsylvania as fast as he could. There, veterinarians discovered the [a.wf.ul] truth behind the dog’s condition.
The puppy, later named Remi, appeared to have been used over and over as a bait dog by dog [fi.ghters]. His body was covered in [bi.te wo.un.ds], and a serious [in.fect.ion] was [thre.aten.ing] his life.
What followed was a [pa.in.ful], uncertain stretch of round-the-clock care. Remi stayed under constant watch while veterinarians and nurses worked nonstop to keep him alive.
There were moments when hope was hard to hold onto, and everyone around him knew the road ahead would not be easy.
But Remi kept fighting.
Slowly, the battered Pit Bull began to respond to treatment. One small improvement led to another, and he refused to give up.
Justice Rescue later said they were [he.artbr.oken] when they thought they might have to let him go. Instead, Remi showed everyone what resilience really looks like. He showed what it means to survive.
Even after everything humans had put him through, Remi did not lose his trust. As he healed, he learned what it felt like to be safe, protected, and loved.
The dog who was [left] on the side of the road and nearly lost his life made it through, thanks to alert children, a determined rescuer, and a veterinary team that never stopped believing in him.
Remi’s story is a powerful reminder that speaking up can save a life, and that every animal deserves compassion, not cruelty. 
Hope the children got to find out what happened to the dog and were thanked for saving his life. That will stay with them forever.
