They didn’t name the term lone wolf 
for nothing 
They are exceptionally intelligent, endlessly loyal, very social.
When farm animals started disappearing near a wooded community, everyone assumed the worst. A young wolf had been spotted limping through the area alone. It looked [de.spe.rate]. Hungry. Pushed out by its pack and close enough to farms that people feared it was only a matter of time before the [lo.ss.es] got worse.
Farmers braced for the evidence. Then they checked their trail cameras.
The wolf wasn’t [at.tack.ing] the lambs. It was carrying them gently into the woods, lowering itself into a playful bow, and trying to get them to play.
Not [hu.nti.ng]. Playing. The same body language a puppy uses when it wants someone to chase it.
The wolf was roughly one year old. [In.jur.ed]. Alone. Wildlife officials believe it had been driven out of its pack, left without the social contact that wolves depend on from birth. In a pack, young wolves wrestle, chase, and play constantly. Without that, they develop behaviors that look [de.spe.rate] because they are.
The wolf wasn’t hungry for food. It was hungry for company.
It found the closest thing available. Small, fluffy animals in a nearby field. And it did the only thing it knew how to do when it wanted a friend. It invited them to play.
Every animal [ta.ken] from the farms was returned unharmed. The wolf has since been safely captured and is being relocated to a reserve with other wolves where the loneliness that drove it to steal lambs for companionship will finally end.
A [pr.eda.tor] came to the farms, and everyone expected violence. The trail cameras showed something nobody was prepared for. A lonely kid looking for a playmate.
Wolves deserve respect and kindness!
