A Mother’s Desperate Fight Against the Cold
Asha’s Journey as subzero temperatures and heavy snow gripped northwestern Minnesota, a stray dog later named Snowbelle faced an impossible choice: find shelter or watch her six 3-week-old puppies perish. With no milk to nourish them and no refuge from the biting cold, this devoted mother dug a snow den and curled her frail body around her puppies, shielding them from the elements. For days, she endured hunger and freezing winds, sacrificing everything to keep her fragile family alive.
Miraculous Rescue by Compassionate Strangers
Hope arrived when a local family spotted the snow-covered den near a frozen lake. They rushed Snowbelle and her puppies to Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue, where shelter staff were awestruck by her determination. “We have no idea how they survived,” the shelter shared on Facebook. After days of warmth, nourishment, and care, Snowbelle began producing milk again, and her puppies—once frail and freezing—thrived.
From Snowbelle to Asha: A New Beginning
While most of her puppies found loving homes, Snowbelle (renamed Asha) still waits for her chance at happiness. Now under the care of Pet Projects Rescue in Nerstrand, Minnesota, this brave mama has undergone a stunning transformation. Initially timid and malnourished, Asha has gained 6 pounds and blossomed into a confident, affectionate dog.
“She’s no longer the scared stray we first met,” says Nancy Bruley, founder of Pet Projects. “She walks proudly on a leash, greets people with wagging paws, and craves love. Her resilience is incredible.”
