Candice Bergen’s Husband Passed Away At 88

Posted on March 16, 2025 by admin

Candice Bergen is mourning the loss of her beloved husband, Marshall Rose. He passed away peacefully on February 15 at the age of 88, due to complications associated with Parkinson’s disease.

Marshall Rose was much more than just a accomplished real estate developer; he was a true civic leader and philanthropist who devoted his life to enriching New York City. Born in Brighton Beach in 1937, Rose pursued his studies in economics at City College and later earned a law degree from New York University. In 1978, his ambition led him to establish The Georgetown Company, which was pivotal in overseeing significant projects like Frank Gehry’s iconic IAC building and the extensive renovation of Madison Square Garden.

Over time, Rose’s focus shifted towards philanthropy, establishing charter schools and dedicating his time to numerous nonprofit boards. Among his proudest moments was his remarkable 30-year service with the New York Public Library, where he played a crucial role in numerous key renovations and also in the rejuvenation of Bryant Park. Known for his sage wisdom, infectious humor, and keen mentorship, Marshall Rose was not only a devoted father and grandfather but also an insightful leader who leaves behind a rich legacy in the city he cherished.

Marshall found love once more with Candice Bergen after both had endured the pain of losing their previous partners. They married in June 2000 and were looking forward to their 25th anniversary later this year. For Candice, their relationship came as a surprising gift, unfolding after the passing of her first husband, Louis Malle, in 1995. A chance meeting arranged by 60 Minutes producer Don Hewitt and his wife, Marilyn Berger, brought Candice and Marshall together, and it soon blossomed into a beautiful love story.

Marshall Rose is survived by his wife, Candice Bergen; his children, Wendi and Andrew; his stepdaughter, Chloe; and his grandchildren, each one of them carrying forward his legacy.

Born on May 9, 1946, Candice Bergen is a celebrated American actress, author, and former fashion model. She shot to fame for her unforgettable portrayal of the astute journalist Murphy Brown on the widely-loved sitcom Murphy Brown, which aired from 1988 to 1998 and saw a revival in 2018. Her brilliant performance earned her a remarkable five Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes.

Hailing from Beverly Hills, California, Candice was brought up in a vibrant showbiz family, the daughter of famous ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and model Frances Bergen. She attended the University of Pennsylvania but soon decided to follow her passion, venturing into modeling and acting. Her film career took off with her debut in The Group (1966), followed by prominent roles in classics like Carnal Knowledge (1971), Starting Over (1979), and Gandhi (1982).

Alongside acting, Candice has made significant strides as a journalist, memoirist, and activist. She has authored two bestselling memoirs, Knock Wood (1984) and A Fine Romance (2015), offering an intimate peek into her life and professional journey.

Even today, Candice Bergen graces the screen with her exceptional talent, featuring in films and TV series including Boston Legal, Miss Congeniality, and Book Club.
