Andrew spent years hiding a mistake he made as a teenager, which led to his wife Nina’s infertility. When his adopted daughter, Louise, discovers a medical folder revealing that Nina’s infertility wasn’t due to Andrew’s condition, but because of a procedure his mother performed on Nina years ago, Andrew is forced to confess the truth.
As a teenager, Andrew and Nina had a drunken encounter, and Andrew’s mother, a gynecologist, gave him pills to ensure Nina didn’t get pregnant. Later, Andrew learned that the pills caused Nina to become infertile. Fearing Nina would blame herself, Andrew pretended to be infertile and never told her the truth.
Years later, after multiple failed attempts to conceive, Andrew and Nina adopted Louise. Despite the lie, Louise’s discovery forces Andrew to reveal everything. The story ends with Louise, angry and heartbroken, destroying one of Andrew’s mother’s diplomas, before leaving the house for good.
