I was waiting for a train when a stranger approached me. He looked exhausted—his suit was wrinkled, his eyes tired, and his voice carried a quiet sense of urgency.
“Could I borrow your phone to call my wife?” he asked softly. “My battery died.”
Every instinct told me to be cautious. Handing a phone to a stranger isn’t something most people do. But there was something genuine in his expression that made me pause.
After a moment, I unlocked my phone and handed it to him.
He stepped a short distance away and made a brief call. I couldn’t hear much, only a few quiet words spoken with remarkable tenderness.
