One often-overlooked fact about dogs is that, despite their fur, they can feel the cold just as intensely as humans. This is especially heartbreaking when considering the many stray puppies who spend much of their lives wandering, searching for warmth, yet never finding it.

A Rescuer Finds Him
Hanker was once an ordinary pup with simple needs: food, water, and a warm shelter. But after being abandoned by his owner, those basic comforts were taken away. He roamed the streets of St. Louis, struggling to survive.
His fortune changed one day when he stumbled upon a small house designed for feral cats. Being a small dog, Hanker squeezed in, seeking warmth and safety.
Fortunately, his presence didn’t go unnoticed. Donna, a local rescuer with Stray Rescue of St. Louis, spotted Hanker curled up inside the tiny shelter.
A Warm Welcome
When Donna found him, Hanker immediately sensed that help had arrived. He eagerly emerged from the little house and greeted her warmly. It was clear that he had been through a lot—he was malnourished and likely hungry.
Hanker’s Cheerful Spirit
Once at the shelter, Hanker settled into a cozy dog bed in one of the offices. Despite the hardships he had faced, his positivity shone through.
He was incredibly happy to be out of the cold and embraced by warmth and care. Even more remarkable, he got along well with the shelter cats, which delighted the staff.
Before long, Hanker was placed in a foster home, where his life took another joyful turn.
His foster mom was thrilled to welcome him, and Hanker quickly adapted to his new surroundings. He met her dogs, and they became fast friends, playing tag and enjoying each other’s company.
A Happy Pup, Looking for Forever
Hanker’s infectious positivity has touched everyone around him. He’s thriving in his foster home, where he enjoys warmth, love, and companionship.
Now, all that’s left is for him to find his forever family—a loving home where he can continue to spread joy.
While we don’t yet know if Hanker has found that special home, it’s certain that his rescuers are doing everything they can to ensure he does.
