It all began when my son, Andy, begged for a dog. After much convincing, my wife, Kelly, agreed—but only if the dog was small and “presentable.” At the shelter, Andy immediately bonded with a scruffy, messy dog, Daisy, despite her not fitting the picture Kelly had in mind. Reluctantly, we brought her home.
That night, Daisy couldn’t settle, and Kelly eventually gave her a treat to calm her down. Later, I woke up to find Andy gone, with the window open and Daisy missing.
After frantic searching, Daisy returned, muddy and exhausted, and we received a call from a neighbor saying she saw Andy near the woods. I found him, shivering but safe, with Daisy by his side.
Back home, I confronted Kelly, who admitted to letting Daisy out, thinking Andy would get over her. She thought Daisy wouldn’t fit in and hoped the dog would disappear.
I was furious, but as I looked at Andy and Daisy, I realized that family isn’t about perfection. Daisy had become an unbreakable part of our family, and Kelly had to accept that.
